“Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors without Borders,” directed by Mark Hopkins and co-produced by Persona’s Chris Cooper, was shortlisted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences along with 15 other documentaries for 2010 Oscar consideration. All Oscar nominees will be announced on February 2, 2010. Twitch, Persona’s post-production boutique, provided post-production services to this ambitious project.

Clara Law’s drama “Like a Dream” bagged nine nominations at Taiwan’s Golden Horse Award, the most prestigious Chinese-language film awards. Nominations include Best Film, Best Director and Best Male Actor, Daniel Wu (“Around the World in 80 Days”), and Best Female Actor, Yolanda Yuan. The winners will be announced in Taipei on November 28th. “Like a Dream” is about a Chinese-American man who travels to China to look for his imaginary love. Persona Films provided all production support on the film during the New York leg of the shoot.

Persona Films starts production on “Cargo”, a new action drama, starring Sayed Badreya (“Iron Man”, “Independence Day”, “The Insider”, “American East”) and Natasha Rinis (“The Prospects”). Directed by Yan Vizinberg, the film tells the story of a young Russian woman, smuggled into America by human traffickers, and a notorious Egyptian transporter, hired to drive her from the Mexican border to New York City, who form an unlikely bond that transforms them and threatens to derail the traffickers’ plans.

After a successful screening to a full house at the Miami International Film Festival, “Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors without Borders” picked up the Special Jury Award at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California. “Living in Emergency”, a documentary on Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres), tells the story of four doctors confronting the challenges of their work and the limits of their idealism in the extreme settings of Liberia and Congo. It is scheduled to be released theatrically in 2009

“Grace Hartigan: Shattering Boundaries”, a documentary about Grace Hartigan, the fiercely independent Abstract Expressionist painter, screens at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival as part of the festival’s “Art!” program.
